Sprinter Van Interior Walls: Making Utility Cozy - CreatID

Both of these considerations drove the design and execution of the interior wall system. The end goal was to create a warm inviting interior, that also had modular functionality. For the cladding on the Sprinter van interior walls, we opted for the warm honey look of clear vertical grain (CVG) Douglas Fir with a natural hard wax top coat.

How to Install Walls in a DIY Camper Van Conversion

Secure Wall Panels to the Van: Starting from the “most square” portion of the van, which was the partition right behind the driver’s seat, we worked our way back in four-foot sections, securing the panels to the furring strips with 3/4″ lath screws. Initially we were going to build a DIY bed but Overland Sprinters came out with a cheap, sturdy bed platform kit. Two rolled steel rails and three aluminum panel frames. You add your own plywood facing to the panel frames. This keeps the cost down to about 1/3 the cost of the RB Components alternative.

We used a table saw to cut the panel on the length. Once again, we measured the length needed for each new panel, to make sure it was the proper size. Since the wall was longer than 10 feet, we had to use a full panel, plus a section of an additional one. We made sure the junction point was on a stud, to be able to nail the ends of both panels

The first panel worked out perfectly. Step 8: Follow the Same Procedure With the Other Panels . After hanging the first panel, we followed the same steps to cut and hang plywood for the rest of the van. The windows in our van are all the same size, so we were able to modify our first template to make the other two panels.
